Only lab authorized personnel may collect specimens.
Outside accounts: Call Blood Bank supervisor to schedule (847-5121).
Specimen must be signed by authorized collector and include date and time of collection.  Specimen will be released at 23:59 on the third day after collection.

Specimen Information

Submit whole blood. An unseparated Red top tube (Plain) or two-4.0 mL lavender tube (EDTA) are acceptable and preferred if a pink top tube is unavailable. Serum gel tubes are NOT acceptable. 3 capillary tubes (red or lavender) are acceptable if reverse grouping is not ordered. The specimen label must include the patient’s full legal name, UVMMC MRN, date of birth, date and time of sample collection, and the signature of the authorized person that collected the sample.  The specimen may be used for crossmatching until 23:59 on the third day from the draw date. Only lab-authorized phlebotomists may collect samples used for transfusion.
