Deliver fresh specimens to the Laboratory immediately after collection. If collected after 3pm or on a weekend add equal amounts of 50% Ethanol and refrigerate. 50% ethanol is available in the specimen receiving area of the laboratory. It is Essential to include history of Cancer and Radiation/Chemo therapy on the laboratory requisition.
For patients with a history of (or suspected to have) leukemia or lymphoma, optimal cellular evaluation is performed in the Hematology Division of the Laboratory rather than Cytopathology. In these cases a Hematology CSF Cell Count should be ordered.
